World War 1 Weapons – About the Airforce during the WW1

World War 1 is one of the most remarkable wars ever happen in the history. This is considered as the first war wherein aircrafts are deployed. Some of the tactical weapons used in some wars aside in World War 1 are observation balloons. The main purpose of these balloons is for artillery spotting. In previous years, Germany employed the so-called Zeppelins. This is also one of the best WW1 weapons which are also used in England for strategic bombing purposes.

During the onset of World War 1, airplanes, being one of the best tactical weapons, were used. The first purpose if airplanes are for reconnaissance. The navigators of such tactical weapons are not given with formal training due to the emergency situation they have. Pilots usually learned based from the experience they have. Because of the need for aerial tactical weapons, it led to the development of ground attacking airplanes, bombers and fighters.

During the time of World War 1, those who are using airplanes as tactical weapons are viewed as the modern type of knights. Right after they have succeeded in one of more of their fights, they are already referred to as heroes of their own country.

For about one decade after the boom of World War 1, the airplanes used as WW1 weapons found out to have many flaws. There are so many things that must be improved in it in order to provide precise and exact use. Due to the engine power limitations in the previous years of World War 1, there is also corresponding limitation in the payload of the aircrafts. The airplane tactical weapons that time are just made with hardwood which is braced using steel wires. Aside from that, linen fabric was also used which is doped using flammable liquid. This substance is used in order to make it stiff creating wing surface.

Aside from using primitive materials like these, rudimentary aviation engineering during World War 1 is not that good producing fragile aircrafts. Moreover, aerial tactical weapons during the World War 1 are also easily broken down especially when performing complex maneuvers.

At the beginning of the World War 1

There are already some concerns in terms of using aircraft as tactical weapons. There are plenty of senior officers who are still skeptical with the use of these aircrafts.

The success of the Zeppelin in Germany during the World War 1 years has made the other forms of aircrafts become obsolete. On the other hand, the air force of the French Military Aviation pioneered the combination of reconnaissance as well as artillery.

On the other hand, Great Britain have already startled late. Great Britain has relied wholly in the aircraft industry of France especially when it comes to the aircraft engines. Conversely, American navy and army are still behind. This is basically evident when the first involvement of American army in the war in the year 1917 wherein they are very much dependent on the French as well as British aircraft industries.

Air Vice Marshal Dickson is one of the most remarkable people during the World War 1. He predicted that air combat will not last for longer periods of time even if there are some excellent tactical weapons that can be used. The firing rate of some of the air crafts are not that good ending up as exchanging waves and smiles from both parties. Because of the decrease in the success rate of the tactical weapons used in World War 1, many soldiers have used grenades, bricks and other objects to combat their enemies.

During the year 1912, the air craft makers from the Great Britain conducted experimentation with regards to the machinegun-carrying aircraft. Because of the experimentation made, it resulted to the development of Vickers Experimental Fighting Biplane 1. This is in fact featured during the aero show happened way back in the year 1913. In the year 1915, Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2b as well as Airco DH.1 was introduced. These are considered as pusher type which provides better results when used in air wars.

The pusher air crafts produced became one of the best tactical weapons ever created. This will not just provide the user with excellent firing capabilities but also offensive properties. The propellers for these aircrafts are mounted behind their respective engine(s). And at this point in time, there are already so many army groups that are looking forward of getting their own unit of any pusher carrier air crafts. This is very much in demand and is not just secured by many countries in Europe and America but also to the other countries from all across the world.

Definitely, air force in World War 1 has evolved from the basic to complex models!

The process of evolution comes from the simple materials used in making the plane up to the complex motor and engine systems. And today, there are already so many other models of tactical weapons that can be used in aerial wars.
